I was RAPED, what do I do?

Rape and sexual assault are traumatic, life-altering experiences that can leave people feeling confused, vulnerable, ashamed, and alone. If you were sexually assaulted:

  • The most important factor should be ensuring your safety. If that means calling someone you trust to stay with you or doing something that brings a sense of normalcy. Once you feel safe, you can either...
    • Call 9-1-1 or go to your nearest police station should you decide to file a report with law enforcement., or;
    • Go to your nearest hospital emergency room and request to have a sexual assault exam*, or;
    • Contact your local Rape Crisis Center to learn about your options and be connected with other resources you may need.
*If the assault happened within the past seven (7) days, and the survivor is thirteen (13) years of age or older, you can activate the Sexual Assault Response Team.
